课程大纲（Module Handbook: General Management）
Session 1: Introduction to Management and Strategy
In this session we will introduce the course and discuss expectations. We will also review some of the fundamentals of management and link them to some of the recent trends. We will also explore aspects of scientific management and how the systems view has shaped our everyday analysis.
Session 2: The role of the manager and the impact of leader.
In this session we will explore the role of the leader and we will differentiate it from that of the functional and project manager. Emphasis will be given to some of the leadership classifications.
Session 3: Functions and management delivery
In this section we will focus on some of the key functions of management. Focus will be given to the role of marketing and operations. We will also develop an operations strategy matrix aiming to link the two.
Session 4: Product, Service Design and Open Innovation
In this session you will be asked to develop a service design process for a car manufacturer. The aim will be to explore how marketing and operations can be combined to deliver new products.
Session 5: Process Design and Lean Operations
In this session you will have to redesign and map an existing process. We will explore some of the key management practices associated with managing processes which are efficient and add value.
Session 6: Planning and Control
In this session you will be asked to work in groups to manage the production and ordering of a process. Please make sure you have a laptop with you.
Session 7: Managing aspects of operations and controlling.
In this session we will discuss the different strategies for service and manufacturing operations.
Session 8 Supply Chain Design and Management
In this session we will discuss the importance of supply chain in managing operations and achieving competitiveness. We will discuss the impact of new technologies, such as industry 4.0 and the smart factory on the management of modern operations.
Session 9: Managing Quality
We will focus on the impact of quality on achieving high organisational performance.
Session 10: Statistical Process Control and 6 sigma
During this session we will explore some aspects of analysing data for managing processes. Emphasis will be given to the popular 6 sigma approach.
Session 11: Close and other forms of management
During this session we will explore other aspects of organisational functions and their impact on performance. Emphasis will be given on the management of innovation and projects.
